Fred Thompson

Fred Thompson, actor/politician (a title that decreases his credibility and increases his "teasability" instantly) was expected to "razzle dazzle" the crowd in the republican debate on the economy. with his on-stage presence and his political background, the spotlight was on Thompson. and while he didn't do badly...he didn't do well either. i don't think Thompson will be a very strong candidate in the 2008 presidential election. he will get attention because of his background, but nothing too out of the ordinary otherwise. what is it with actors becoming politicians now? how many actors are involved directly in national politics?...that would be interesting to find out.
yet in all sincerity...i did enjoy his role as a politician in 'O Brother Where Art Thou?'

Well, I've never seen "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and I'm sure that Thompson is a very accomplished actor. However, I just cannot accept or support an actor with no political background to be the next big leader of this country. I need to know his qualifications, and I think that the media has done a poor job in making our population aware of the potential that he has. How are we to decide how well he can relate to us if all we have is a shelf of movies to help us determine this? I agree with you - What is going on with this celebrity-turned politician thing?

This is the problem with our election system. Anyone with enough money can run for the presidency. I am sure there are thousands of people out there who would make better leaders and just don't have the funds. Actor turned president with not many qualifications? I wouldn't put much faith into him.

And no Arnold, we are not letting immigrants run for presidency. Stick to acting and bodybuilding. Entertain me - don't try and make laws for me.

O Brother Where art thou is a great movie. and Fred managed to razzle dazzle the screen really well. But when it comes to the election...he seems to get coverage because he was an actor..and because he's got the dough for it....the ultimate COMBO!!

but i think the reson why he is getting so much coverage is because he reminds the people of tw repubicans:

Ronald Reagan..the ultimate republican

Arnold Schwarz"can't spell his last name"...the republica joke.
